Peru Pros. Spring 2014.
2 weeks in Peru gave us time to really explore the Sacred Valley and also stopover in Lima. We spent a couple of days in Cusco before heading to the town of Ollantaytambo where some of the group started the challenging 4 day hike up the Inca trail to Machu Picchu while some of us took the train. The group then reunited in Machu Picchu! We visited the San Sebastian community to volunteer with Helping Hands Cusco where we painted, helped carry up materials for the bathroom renovation that the volunteers sponsored, and put on a mini carnival for the students of the school. We also got a chance to experience a home stay with Aurelia, a teacher from the school, and dress up in traditional costumes. We then took a cooking class in Cusco, went zip lining over and white water rafting on the Cusipata river, went shopping in the Pisac town, and horseback riding near Maras town. We also got to see some of the Semana Santa festivities before flying to Lima. In Lima, we explored the Miraflores, San Isidro, Barranco, and Centro neighborhoods.
